Whole Home Treatment in Perry Hall
A customer in Perry Hall scheduled an audit with us because his home could not maintain the temperature that was set on the thermostat. This led to the heating and cooling running all of the time and high bills in the winter and summer.
The energy audit found that the home was poorly sealed and insulated in the attic and crawl space. The below are before and after pictures of the work that was done.
Baffles were installed at the eaves/soffits to maintain attic ventilation after the insulation is blown in.
The home was built on cinderblocks and they opened up to the attic at each gable wall. These gaps allow air to escape and were sealed using spray foam.
Wires are run through the gaps in interior walls and the holes that are drilled allow air to escape. This was sealed to keep the heat and cool air inside more effectively.
The existing bathroom fan was replaced and vented to the outside. The exhaust run is insulated as well to prevent condensation from forming.
A big reason for the discomfort was how poorly insulated the attic and ductwork were. In the first picture, you can see the main supply line had no insulation! We added loose blown fiberglass until R-49 was reached. This will help to make the home much more comfortable during those 30 and 95 degree days.
While not as important as the attic or the crawl space the unfinished basement walls were insulated. This will further help to make the home more comfortable and efficient.
Crawl space rim joist areas were sealed with spray foam to stop air infiltration and the crawl space was insulated. This will help to make the floor above more comfortable and sealing the bottom will help to reduce humidity from entering the home.
