Baltimore Row Home DensePack
Smart Energy Pros recently insulated a Baltimore rowhome and we wanted to share the experience!
Background: A customer, who lived in a home built in 1900, contacted us because their third floor was unbearably hot during the summer. An energy audit was performed to inspect the home, allow the customer to access rebates, and determine the best way to make the home more comfortable.
Findings: The home has very little if any insulation in every section of the home. The only area that can be feasibly treated, while also making a noticeable impact is the attic which has an 8 inch cavity. The expectations going into the project should be that this will be an improvement but not a night and day difference.
Process:
A plastic tarp is laid across personal belongings to catch drywall dust.
A laser level is set up to make sure that holes are drilled evenly (green line in second photo).
Holes are drilled.
Fiberglass is packed into cavities as much as space allows. We normally use cellulose but we felt the drywall at the ceiling would not have been strong enough to hold the material.
Holes are patched and spackled.
The plastic tarp is removed and any debris is swept up or vacuumed up.
Test out is completed and we are gone after 6 hours.
Conclusion
